I’m delighted to bring you a guest post written by Cheryl Edwards – originally written shortly after Christmas, however what she has to say resonates at any time of the year. Especially on a Thank You Thursday. Enjoy.

Feeling deflated after all the hustle and bustle of the festive season has subsided?

Looking to maintain that feeling of celebration you felt over Christmas and the New Year?

Then try adopting an attitude of gratitude for all that you have in your life, right now, whether it’s good or not so good. By cultivating a feeling of appreciation for all that is around you helps you to bring about a sense of well-being. This is because when you are focusing on appreciation you can’t focus on something that’s upsetting you.

Consider this: you already have many things that you can be grateful for in your life. Your body, all your material comforts, your relationships. These are just some of the things that you can begin to appreciate. Gratitude brings love and compassion into your life. When you focus on gratitude for what you have, you are bringing your attention into the present moment. This releases any tensions you might be feeling. It helps you to let go of problems from the past or worries about the future.

Studies have shown that by focusing on gratitude, making a list of at least five things that have happened in your day, resulted in better health and well-being.

Try jotting down five things that you felt grateful for in your day. It doesn’t have to be anything big, it could just be appreciation that the sun shone today or you got a seat on the bus.¬† What other things could you find to be grateful for?

See how many things you can think of. You might find that you can’t stop at five things. How does it make you feel? Notice if it brings about a feeling of well-being and contentment. Has it helped you to let go of something negative? Remember to congratulate yourself once more for trying something new.

Enjoy
